East Indonesia Focus East Indonesia Focus Family Care Indonesia ongoing educational support program aided dozens of schools in Indonesia’s eastern region in 2009--working extensively in Ruteng, Ende and Maumere in Flores, as well as Kupang and Atambua in Timor. In addition, we located interested sponsors facilitating the construction of a new school building in Atambua and surveyed refugee villages near Ambon for future projects. We also sponsored projects in Makassar providing free health care and hygiene education.

For the past four years, Family Care Indonesia volunteers have made regular visits to West Flores Island to help the village people there. In June, project coordinator, Frances, along with 8 FCI youth volunteers returned again to Flores.

In 2007 Family Care Indonesia volunteer, Angel received several phone calls from a friend concerned about the educational need for families along the Indonesian/Timor Leste border. This spurred our concern and with the help of local sponsors FCI gathered a variety of educational supplies for the schools there.

School Construction in Atambua

School Construction in Atambua

This month, construction began on a three room school building in the city of Atambua. Through the generosity of numerous sponsors, Family Care Indonesia volunteers were able to collect sufficient funding for this project. It is estimated that construction will take two and half to three months. The building will serve as an addition for the original school that was built in 2009.

Waingapu and Waikabubak - Sumba Island

Volunteers from Family Care Indonesia conducted a number of inspirational childrens programs at the PT. Mitra Niaga Timor school located in the jungles near Waikabubak. The programs included fun educational videos and games as well as donationing toys, clothing, and teaching aids to poor families.

Kupang, Soe, and Atambua - Timor Island

Joining with other participants, Family Care Indonesia volunteers visited 2 orphanages and schools and a center for physically disabled children conducting many fun childrens activities which included music, dancing, games and sports. FCI volunteers also provided meals and donated sets of educational videos for the children.

Muluku Islands

This past month two Family Care Indonesia volunteers visited the Maluku Islands for two weeks. On Serem Island, they went to four different villages and distributed school supplies to over 300 children. Their next stop was Ambon where they visited three orphanages. The children were extremely happy for the visit.
