Trip to Timor and Flores

Trip to Timor and Flores Recently Family Care Indonesia received 2 University students from Australia as volunteers who came to assist in social projects, below is their story written by Abi:

"My sister Isabel and I made a trip from Australia to Indonesia during our university break. Together with Frances, who lives in Indonesia, we went to the East Indonesian islands of Timor and Flores to distribute goods to the people living in poor and remote locations.

Some of France's friends, who wanted to do something to help make a difference in their country, sponsored stationery, school bags, slippers, clothes, soap, snacks, toys, milk powder, solar lamps, and generators. We also received a grant which we used to buy balloons and a number of sets of the STEPS Character Building curriculum to donate to underprivileged schools.

Trip to Timor and Flores We visited 18 schools, two orphanages, and a couple of villages. We taught children English through songs and conversation, made them balloons and distributed donated goods. Our Indonesian friends in Timor and Flores took care of us and provided food, accommodation, and transportation for the entire duration of our visit. We also distributed all the donated goods during the time we were there.

Although this trip was a little shorter than our previous trips, we feel we accomplished a lot, mainly because we made stronger connections with the people we worked with. A big thanks to all those who helped with donations toward our travels and those who kept us in their prayers! We couldn’t have done it without you!"
