Providing Educational Opportunities Along the Indonesian/Timor Leste Border
In 2007
Family Care Indonesia volunteer, Angel received several phone calls from a friend concerned about the educational need for families along the Indonesian/Timor Leste border. This spurred our concern and with the help of local sponsors
FCI gathered a variety of educational supplies for the schools there.
Following this, Angel made a trip to the border region and met Ibu Fin, a school teacher and greatly admired her dedication to teaching along with the other volunteer teachers she met. Through the sponsorship of friends in Jakarta the first school building in this area became a reality.
FCI volunteers held several educational training seminars for the teachers along with bringing in more donated school supplies.
During another visit to the area in 2010, Ibu Fin explained that many more children wanted to come to the new school but the original building was now too small. Thanks to our many friends and donors, on March 18, 2011 Angel returned again to Atambua to sign the contract for the second school building.
The second building was finished at the end of April and
FCI volunteers attended the official opening of the new school building on June 10, 2011.
The School now provides educational opportunities for over 150 families.
We want to express our very heartfelt thanks and appreciation to each one who made this dream a reality.
Health and Nutrition Program - North Jakarta
In early June,
Family Care Indonesia volunteers distributed 25 boxes of soup mixes along with their monthly donation of milk and other needed food items to Cilincing, where a monthly health care program provides medical assistance, check-ups and nutrition counseling and food supplements for 230 under-nourished children.
Also this month,
FCI assisted volunteer doctors from
Atma Jaya University and delivered soup mixes that will be used as added nutrition for the bi-weekly nutrition program for 50 children who need serious attention to their health and weight gain.
Many thank to those who continue their regular financial sponsorship as we work together to help alleviate the on-going challenge of malnutrition in North Jakarta, particularly Cilincing, Tanjung Priok.
